308 win rougher reamer for sizing die

I read recently on this forum that you could make a FL sizing die using a rougher reamer. Specifically, I have a 308 win rougher reamer and I also have a 308 win finish reamer with .332 neck. Will this work with this combination?
Thanks in advance
Mike

Mike,

Sometimes the resize reamers are called roughing reamers and visa versa, however they are not actually the same thing in many cases. Resize reamers are slightly undersized in some important areas in order to squeeze the brass back to size. By how much, I don't know, I just tell Dave Kiff what I want and it's done. Some folks use resizers as the rougher when they are bought in pairs so they use the finisher as little as possible. If a reamer is listed as a rougher, I'm not sure that it would be reduced in the proper dimensions that a resize die would need to have as the resize reamer would provide.

If you can't find the awnser you are looking for on here try calling Colleen at 519-658-9378 ext 150. She has been working with taps, reamers and dies for over 40 years so I'm sure she will be able to help!

I believe PTG told me at one time the dont have drawings avail for roughers and i think they were .007-.008 undersized. Id guess that goes for headspace to so so your round would probably come out tighter than a match reamer and to short of headspace. I was going to try using a rougher in 17hmr as a match reamer but to tight.
