.308 WIN RESIZING ISSUE

Thanks for the responses. I had one box of Lapua .308 Win brass of a different lot. I loaded up 5 rounds, went to the range, popped them off and brought them home. Again out of the chamber there is less than .001" of runout. Fired neck diameter was .342". Using the .337 bushing I sized them. They came out with a neck diameter of .3355" (go figure!) but there was no ridge on the neck and the runout remained under .001". I think I have a brass problem. Anyone want to buy 3 unopened boxes of .308 brass all of the same lot? Ill sell it cheap![/QU
well I didn’t see that one coming. It sounds like you should be writing a note to Lapua, and making them aware of that.

I have written to both Redding and Lapua. To their credit, techs from both companies were very quick to respond. The Redding tech indicated that because they work in New York, they are trying to work from home and said that he would be returning to work on Monday the 18th and would take a deeper dive into the issue then. The Tech from Lapua gave me several suggestions all of which I already do or subsequently tried. None made any difference. I have since sent both techs an update regarding the results of the different lot of brass. I'll have to see what if anything they tell me come Monday.

Unlike some I read all your posts and I would concur that something is afoul with your brass!... I had a similar happening but it was my fault,.... not sure what I did but it was definitely on my end. I have a 7-08 bought 200 new Lapua brass from Bruno’s. The case mouths were badly dinged on this batch so I ran a mandrel through them when I got about 45 of the 50 done I realized I was using my turning mandrel so I was gonna have to run them through a neck die,.... I said heck I’ll just skim turn them and did probably 65 to 70% loaded and shot them. Like yours they came outta the chamber about .001 runout.
I decided to run them through the turner one more time, never changed cutting depth from previous turning, I got about 95% cleanup on necks. I had missed a few things I was shooting at so decided to clean rifle and print some paper, it wasn’t grouping well at all so I started inspecting and found I had as high as .009 runout and .004 was the norm with only a few under .002 one more firing and checked loaded rounds again and same thing so I tossed it,.... the other 50 unturned pieces less that .002 runout at ogive on loaded rounds. Now I did notice while figuring this all out my very worst runout was with Redding S die! Even a rcbs f/l die produced less runout than my Redding?......just saying. Good luck sir.

Doing the same thing with my Redding and Widden FL Bushing Dies. Putting in run out in every case. Redding Body die and my Redding Bushing Neck die only dies that work.
