308 Win Freebore/throat length for Remington 700 Mag box

Can anyone recommend a throat length/reamer dimension which will allow 168 Sierra MK's to seat within the length of a standard Remington 700 internal magazine box and allow close bullet seating to be able to touch or slightly jam the lands?

I currently have a 308 Obermeyer chamber but to get close to the lands for good accuracy, I am over mag length and therefore have to single load.

I'm about to start another build and need a starting point for a reamer dimension.

Thanks.

.060 will work for 168 classic hunters. Thinking they are close to the 168 SMKs. Depending on exactly how much jump you want.

If you want a non SAAMI spec reamer, you have to order it. Either Dave Kiff at PT&G or the guys at Clymer can make you a reamer to your specs.

I actually prefer a long jump, I don't see any advantage to short throats.

Cheers.
:)

Saami spec freebore for the 308 win is .090. My statement of .060 freebore was based on what bullets you intend on using(168mk) the achieve "just" touching the lands and still fitting inside a SA DBM. The .090 will work for half of your requirement but just touching the lands AND fitting inside the mag would not work IMO. I understand that some SA mags fit 2.990 oal cartridges and so maybe you could make that combination work. Typical 2.800-2.950 will not work to your exact spec. You would have to call JGS, PT&G, Manson etc for a specific reamer print. They may also have a print on file that they already built for a customer.

Call PT&G and tell them what you want and I guarantee you they already have a reamer for it. They will send you the print for you to study no questions asked.

That's a good reamer print for mag length ammo. Fits mid weight 308 bullets in the mag with the ability to touch the lands

I've been emailing with JGS. Their #3775 US Palma Team has a freebore of .050. I think this will work and am going to give it a try.

I'm not interested in velocity at all costs or a long freebore to maximize powder space. I would rather keep loads moderate and play with seating depth for accuracy.

Man you sure can get some bad advice on here. For mag feeding don't go more than .060. The 95 Palma reamer is what I'd got with

Not sure what your definition of "Bad Advice" is but not really thinking anyone gave it. This stuff is all opinion and experience based info. Take it or leave it. The freebore you speak of mimics all the respondents opinions as well.
