.308 Win / Bedding /Groups/ Accuracy

I have a .308 Remington 700 SPS tactical 20" barrel. I have only put a Jewel trigger and worked extinsively witha few loads, have a few good ones, and keep a 1/2" at 200 yds. Is there any point in bedding the action, will the new remington synthetics take the bed job?

Have the same rifle. Everything I've read about it leads me to think bedding compound won't adhere to the overmolded stock. If you haven't opened up the barrel channel a little you might want to do that, especially if you're shooting off a bipod. I just used an exacto knife to whittle on some of the high spots. Followed that up with large socket wrapped with sandpaper to smooth it all out and open up a little more. That helped get rid of the odd flyers which I suspect were caused by barrel occasionally touching the stock. It's not a great stock but overall the SPS rifles sure seem to shoot well right out of the box and price is right.

If it is consistently holding 1/2" at 200 yards, I would say you aren't going to improve things any. Unless you have a factory hummer, the 2's you are shooting are typically the limit of any factory rifle. I'd have to go look at my dad's rifle to make sure, but I thought his SPS tactical had an aluminum bedding block.

The Hogue stock on the SPS Tactical has floated barrel with aluminum pillar bedding which works very well. It is the the rest of the stock that has issues.
The fore end is so flimsy that the weight of the rifle on the rest or a bi-pod will cause the barrel to contact the stock. I replaced my stock with a BC with a full aluminum chassis bedding block. I also had problems with the factory trigger pull weight would change from shot to shot. It now has a Timney with a 1.5 pound pull. All things considered I'm still impressed with this rifle it is a solid .3 - .4 performer.
