308 win, 210 VLD loads? Anyone?

Does anyone have a load for a 308 win shooting 210 VLDs? I plan on using IMR 4064, Federal 210 primers, lapua brass, and of course the 210 vlds.

I some load ideas. Can anyone help? I have a 28 inch criterion barrel on the 308.

hello and welcome Now you might get what you are looking for with said powder Hint powder. I not saying in any way with your 28" barrel it cannot happen, but your fps will or might not be what you are wanting. Over at sniperhide there is a BIG write up using a 208gn A-max, so the 210gn VLD shouldn't be that much of a difference. The pick of powder is and I'll go on to say still is R17. Some have even tried Varget with great accuracy, but there fps went down big time. I think a few even made good shots just past 1000, but I think one would like to get as much as they can safely as they can from a rifle. I played the 208 game for a short time, and the recoil was ok, but didn't like the hot load for what I was going to do. I think its hard on the barrel and not something to do for a rifle with many uses. If you are looking to just shoot this combo for the life of the barrel, I'll add that an old friend shot this combo ( 208gn A-max ) with 3500 rounds down the tube. He even made some good targets to win JR 800, 900, and 1000 record.
Hope this helped

forgot most had 20" barrels but a few shot 28-30" barrels, and win brass is a must for the amount of powder, any powder of choice, because it holds the most

I've been playing with the 210 VLDs and 208 A-Maxes in my .308 win with a 24" 1-10 twist Obermyer. Mine is a single shot & the barrel was throated for these longer pills. Loaded COAL is approaching 3.00". From a purely ballistic standpoint, I'm sure something like a 185 Jug or Hybrid would be better, but I'm doing this solely to ring steel at known distances from 300-1,000yds. It's silly, but I like the clang the heavier pills make. The 208 A-Max and 210 VLD are ballistic twins, so it's easier to afford to practice with the Hornady's.

With Lapua Palma brass, Russian primers & Varget, my accuracy node seems to be right at 41.2gr = 2,425fps. That's plenty of speed for 1K - it goes subsonic at about 1,175 yards in my typical shooting environment. Max safe load in my rifle is about 42gr & 2,485 FPS, but accuracy and chrono data deteriorate rapidly above my 41.2 load. Please work up slowly & be careful - especially if your barrel isn't set up for these LONG pills.

Enjoy. I find it loads of fun and surprisingly pleasant to shoot.

thanks guys for responding. I was able to get out there to the range to test the load with the 210s. It seems that the rifle is shooting pretty good so far. I was able to get it to shoo .6 MOA at 200 yards. I still need to play around with the seating depth but it is looking very promising. I just want this load for target shooting. I will probably use the rifle for some local mid-range f class competitions.
