.308 to.300 WSM

Hi guys,
Anybody converted a Rem. 700 in .308 to .300 Short Magnum? How did you modify the feed rails to make the Short Magnum cases feed? Will it still feed .308 cases if the bolt & barrel were swapped back? Thanks in advance,

Edit to add:
I have the correct WSM mag box with the windows cut out in each side, and the WSM follower, the opening in the bottom of the action is not wide enough for the WSM case to pass through. I also have the WSM bolt as well as the original .473" BF bolt.

It may not be posable. I have never heard of it. Looking at my 308 rem700 it looks way to tight for that big of a shell plus it's longer. Some serious modification would be NECISARY.

Surely it's possible..... Remington sells short action 700's chambered in 300 WSM and .270 WSM. I thought sure someone on this forum would have already done this conversion. I guess maybe I'll be the first, but I doubt it.

It can be done and has been done, but what a P.I.A.! If you alter it, to feed WSMs off the rails, it will never again feed .308s off the rails. The simplist is to install detatchable bottom metal, like CDI, where you can use AI magazines which are center feed. There's another company that makes WSM mags on the AI pattern, but I don't remember that companies name. Should be easy to find on the web. Wyatts makes center feed magazine boxes for the WSMs if you don't want detatchable bottom metal. You might investigate that route.
