.308 projhectile id.

I have a box of 155 grain projectiles that were "supposed" to be siera but theres no way that is true.
I have length measured 10 for an average it comes out to be 1.2820 inch or 32.55mm
Looking on GRT I find two close lengths (and who knows how close GRT is in truth)
Winner No1 is Berger Hybrid for 1.2717 OAL
Wninner No2 is Lapua Scenar L @1.2913 Its been difficult to find any info on bearing surface length (av of 10 = 0.4845) 12.30mm.
Any help to id would be apreciated
to make the figures clearer
Unknown OAL 1.2820
Berger Hybrid 1.2717
Lapua Scenar L 1.2913

My 155 Palma MK's #2156 OAL measures from 1.198" to 1.204 and the bearing surface is at .282". Sierra also has had 155 SMK's #2155 with an OAL of 1.130. So, I think you're right . . . what you have there are not 155gr Sierra's.

It may actually be the Berger Target Hybrid.
My understanding is the tightly controlled measurements lot to lot are base to ogive, bearing surface and weight. The core and jacket weight will be more or less written in stone for a certain lot of bullets, the only way to adjust for weight variation is the length of the tip. Different lot number are made in different dies.

Berger lists the length as 1.271”
JBM lists the length as 1.280”
I just measured some I have 1.262”

Edit to add
Just checked an older version of Quickload, 1.280”

Berger at least publishes all the dimensions for comparison.

I agree, they do not seem to be Sierra's. My money is on Lapua Scenar, mine have an OAL of 1.286, bearing surface of .390 and BTO .586.

My 155H OAL is 1.260, bearing surface .252, BTO .473

Well I think Lapua and Berger must have collaborated on this box!!
I think I will call it a Lurker Target Senter Hybridised.
It shows how difficult it is to accurately ID a projectile.
I get a bearing surface by my eye of .4250
A Boat Tail of .180
A nose length of .695

When you add those up you get 1.3000!! and this particular bullet measured 1.290 OAL
I think I will just load them up on the light side and shoot them then adjust from there.

They look to be a hybrid design so more inclined to lean towards the Berger, and have a shorter boat tail than the Lapua.
