308 load suggestions

An old lot of AA2520 has given some astonishing 300M groups with 178 BTHPs from an AR10. Often <0.75"

I would recommend going with a 150gr Nosler Balistic Tip. I am running mine with 44gr of Varget (You will need to work up to be sure load is safe in your rifle). Rem 9 1/2 primer and Lapua Brass is what I have loaded in the past.

I have personally shot deer with both Sierra Game Kings and Nosler Balistic Tips and in my experience the Nosler provided much better performance. Better wound channels and in most cases little to no running, just a flop. I like the 150gr for the additional muzzle velocity.

"40.5 of H4895. 165 gameking. Federal primer match. Lapua brass" cam someone suggest if I use Varget where in grs I should be looking at or speed for accuracy? T3-Tikka, .308 WIN 20'' CTR barell profile?
I have a couple recipes for a Tikka,
168 A max 44.2 gr RL-15
168 smk 44. Varget
155 Senars 44.2 H4895

Well I have developed a few loads myself. Some of the loads that work well in my rifle work very well in a number of rifles. I have shared these loads with other shooters and friends and in a lot, not all, cases they have proven to shoot the same in their rifles also and saved them a LOT of time. One example is a load I developed in my 22-250 Winchester of 36gr IMR 4895 and a Hornady 50vmax with Fed 210M primers. I have three of my friends that use this load in their p-dog rifles and swear by it! This is of course after working up to it safely. I have posed this load on this and other web sites and had several people say it worked great in their rifle also. Another is 450M in an 1895 marlin. 58.0 gr H322 and 350 Hornady FN shoots in an inch at 100yds and again many people have reported this worked well in their rifle also. The same reasoning is used by Hodgdon powder when they named H380 because it worked so well in a number of 22-250 rifles when 38 gr of it is used! Looking for favorite loads from others is a common practice and can save you a lot of time. Look at Nosler reloading, they list several powders for each cartridge but Highlite the load that most accurate in their tests. REALLY!

All , thanks for your input, always good to see what is working in other peoples guns instead of buying hundreds of bullets and pounds of powder that wind up sitting on my self. I will try Varget, RL15 and IMR 4895 for powder and Nosler and Hornady 150gr bullets to start with. Thanks again, when I get a good load I will share! Thanks again!

I thought this went without saying but apparently I was wrong, so I will say it. This is a forum for shooters and reloaders to share information! If you don't want to share information then don't but please keep your smart ass answers to your self, I don't need it. I have been sharing load info with others since I was 100yd bench rest shooting in the early 70's. No one is going to take a load and stuff into their gun without working up to it first, reloading 101! Didn't think this needed repeating. I have been on MANY shooters forums and the one common thread they all have is sharing load data! This is not an unusual request! Many people have walked up to me on the shooting line to ask what load I was using, I didn't give them a smart ass answer "go shoot your rifle and find out"! Now having said that, thanks to all for contributing to my knowledge base.

Reading of Varget shortage, and seeing lots of IMR 4895 recipes, are those two very similar in accuracy performance? I shoot Varget because summers in South are 95's and up. Thank you.

I ran out of my supply of 4895 at the end of June where it was working well for me with temps up to 100°F. In fact, it was at 100° when the this powder gave me my best SD and ES ever for 10 shots (ES: 3, and SD: 1.1) with 175 SMK's, but that didn't reflect in the grouping (just under 1/2"). I think it didn't group well because the velocity was a little higher than normal, so think that due to the heat it was getting out of the accuracy node. I've come to like it almost as well as Varget and AR-Comp (4064 ain't bad either ;)).
