.308 in LRPV?

Would any of you out there happen to know whether my .204 LRPV RB/LP, will take a .308 case? I've pretty much shot my current barrel out and would like to convert it to .308 as I have another .204 that's getting lonely. I can switch bolt heads and replace the barrel, but will the feed tray in the bottom of the action properly feed a .308 cartridge? Also, will the ejection port take the .308 shell to begin with? If I'm good up to this point, what else am I forgetting besides a barrel nut wrench, a headspace go gauge, and a little help from a competent smith?

Thanks for your time and thoughts,

CR

I think it will work fine. The ejection port is the same size on all the Target Actions,I was told this, mine were originally 223 and 22-250 and they are identical). Swap the bolt head and get a barrel and your set. I will suggest you take a look at Jim Briggs at Northland Shooter Supply for a new pre-fit. He is trying to stock the common pre-fit Shilen and McGowens. I looked at his page on Savage Shooter and he is out of the Shilen 308s but has McGowen 30" 1:10 twist in stock for $309. He can order anything you want.

If you are mechanically inclined at all, a barrel swap isn't too tough. Several good on-line tutorials that walk you though it step by step. If you don't get it set right on the first try, it is apparent when you verify with the go-gauge and then with the go-gauge and a piece of tape, you just loosen the nut and try again.

Soon you will become a true Savag-a-loic with 4 or 5 barrel for each action and you just have buy the next one because it is such a good deal or a caliber you just always want to try..... or maybe that is just me. I switch barrels at the range in less than 15 minutes. Very addictive.

Tiny,
Excellent! I am slightly mechanically inclined and just ordered a Krieger barrel,my first foray into custom barrels). My friend is a smith and will lend me his expertise while supervising me cut/crown the muzzle, thread the shank, and chamber my first rifle. How cool is that?
Now I just have to wait the 4 months to get the barrel.....I know, I know....I could have ordered the prefit Shilen.....I just really wanted to do this myself....and for quite some time now......maybe next time.

Thanks,

CR

First, great project and you will be very happy wtih it.

Second, you can bet a barrel MUCH quicker by buying it from Bruno Shooting Supply, http://www.brunoshooters.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=BSS&Category_Code=2 )

I have a LRPV switch barrel, two barrels and two bolts) in 223 and 6mmBR and it is a real laser with the Krieger barrel in 6mmBR. It shoots so good, I don't want to change to the 223.
