.308 die for a .260 will it work?

I have a redding competition bushing neck sizer die for a .308. Can I change out the bushing and use it on my .260?

I think it will work fine for ya.
My reason for this line of thinking, is I tried to use a .243 Win. Redding Comp neck die to to size 7/08 brass with just a bushing change. Didn't work. The SLEEVE neck dia. wouldn't allow the 7mm neck to pass into the bushing.
Since you are going the opposite way, I'd say order the bushing you need & try it. The case bodies are the same dimensions so the sleeve should guide the case into the bushing.
Calumet

Not if you are trying to bump the shoulder back. The problem will be that the shoulder in the die will not cover the entire diameter of the shoulder. The shoulder of the .308 is narrower than the shoulder of the .260 because the necks are not the same diameter. You COULD neck
size only I would think.

I'm not going to say yes or no. What I will say is that there has to be a reason (other than just selling more product) why Redding shows (on their die ordering page) that the Type S Bushing Die (both Full and Neck) for a 260 Remington is 77531 and the corresponding dies for a .308 is 77155. Just something to consider.

good point. Im not trying to bump shoulder just trying to size the neck. Cant you take a .308 and size it down to a .260? what die would you use to do this.

Just by chance do you remember what size bushing you used...........
.002 under your 260 loaded round, probably a .290.
What you run into here by necking down is sometimes you'll have necks too thick and require neck-turning. (all depends on which brand 308 brass you use.).
I solved this issue by using 243 Brass and Neck Up.

If you use 308 cases to make 260s the neck will turn out a little bit short. Your case will be shorter than the trim to length. If you use 243 Win. cases they come out perfect. If you are making cases I believe you will need a FL size die so you get your shoulder correct.

FWIW, I seem to get more consistent neck thickness when I am sizing down 223 brass to 20P, when I take it in steps, rather than just one reduction. And you are coming down much more than I am. Just saying...

I use a Redding FL sizing die to reform .308 LC brass to 260Rem. FL size the .308 cases in a 308 FL die first. Use a good case lube, like Imperial Sizing Wax, and anneal the necks after resizing but before fire forming. Do not trim the cases before reforming and I think that you will find the necks to only be a few .000" shorter than SAAMI spec.
Also take measurements to make sure you have sufficient neck clearance. This was not a problem with my chamber and dies, but you need to check YOUR chamber and dies.

You will need to unscrew the die .044 - .050 to accommodate for the different neck shoulder junction of the 260 case. If you run it all the way in your neck will be too long and you'll essentially need to fire form your cases again.
