308 chamber specs for 155-175gr bullets.

I want to order a 308 pre fit barrel, no turn, standard lead of 1 deg 45 min, freebore appropriate for 155-175gr bullets. No larger bullets will be used. This will be used for tactical/steel shooting. I believe the freebore I want is .088-.090, but I'm not positive. I believe this amounts to a SAAMI 308 chamber, but my internet search skills have failed me. I'm unable to decipher the print on the SAAMI site. Is .088-.090 freebore what I want? Thanks.

Anywhere from .060" to .100" will likely work just fine for those bullets. FWIW - I have a number of GAP rifles that would typically be set up for customers in a manner very similar to what you describe using the following specs 0.342 (no turn) neck, 1 deg 30, 0.085" freebore. This chamber works extremely well with 168-175 gr bullets, but will also handle 155s, at least in prepared commercial ammunition.

The 3 Shilen pre-fits I have all have short freebore (0.075"). Too short for some bullets, but perfect for mid-weight VLD's. And they don't care if you seat the bullet in or out of the rifling.

I have a shilen prefit, with a .340nk , 12 twist , and zero freebore and a 155gr siearra palma bullets the base of bullet is right at the bottom of the neck at lands, it shoots great, I did not request that FB, I had the print on it but my old computer went down and lost it.

I ordered a Shilen prefit. It's got a .342 neck and .096 freebore. Also ordered a supply of the 155 Palma. Shot them in the barrel I'm replacing with great success. I'm hoping they'll shoot in the new barrel as well.
