.308 / CFE223 and Primers

I'm reloading some 175 SMKs with CFE223. The accuracy is great @ 100Y, but the ES is quite high, ~50fps.

Do WLR primers tend to do better with ball powders, or specifally with CFE, than say a S&B or Wolf?

My own take is... hard to say.
When I reach for a ball powder and the weather is cooling off, I trend toward the hottest primers I can find and even then I tend to only use the ones like CFE223 in the summer if I can. For me, their performance tails off in cold weather, YMMV

I believe some of the information on the ball powders all say use the magnum or hot primers for best results.

Yep,... I've tried S & B with Win-748 knowing they're probably not strong enough.
Accuracy as OK but ES was very high.

Non magnum primers I found work good with ball powders are 205m (for small primer), and 210m for large primer.
Otherwise stick to magnum primers. ESPECIALLY in the Cold of Winter !

Never tried that heavy of a bullet. Don't like it for the .308. CFE223 is my go-to for my .308 under the 150 Interlock. I have not noticed a difference in primers. I just stick with CCI standard large rifle.
