.308 Cases for F/TR

I am a beginning shooter in F/TR. I would like to purchase 500 Lapua cases in .308 WIN. When I look on various websites that sell cases it looks like there are various types of Lapua cases. Are the ones which I should buy "LAPUA BRASS 308 WIN PALMA SR"? If not which ones? Is there a place I can purchase the cases so that all of the cases come from the same lot? Thanks!

Greetings Gun Guy! I also shoot FTR in 308. I use the regular, not Palma cases. Graf's has them on sale now at a really good price! Good luck man!! Take your time and do it right. Regards, Snuggie.

Lapua 308 Palma(small primer pocket) takes small primers. These are suppose to stand pressure better and the pockets will last longer. Either one you get will be fine for you. Depends on which primer you can find and make sure you can get easily(well more easily)

If you order from PVI or Midsouth you can tell them to give you same lot #. Most likely these will be same lot anyways.

I've never used Hornady match brass, but I believe it to be very good.

I use Lapua exclusively in my F-TR .308 rifles and I use the Large Rifle primer brass. I have never tried the SR brass, but since the LR brass works just fine for me, I'm not about to mess with a working formula. I get over 8 loads from the brass before the primer pockets get too big. By that time, with 500 rounds it's time for a new barrel at which point I get another lot of 500 cases and start over again.

It's just a matter of brass cases management from that point on.

I've never used Hornady nor Lapua cases for my F/TR rifle. I save my money by buying Winchester cases and doing the sorting and culling myself. I've recently moved to F-open and decided to use Lapua cases. After a lot of measuring and evaluation, I found that they still needed the same amount of prep work that the Winchesters did.

If you decide to go with Winchester, you'll need to do weight sorting and flash hole deburring as a minimum. Ideally, a neck skim turning would be done too. Annealing is also a great idea after a few loadings. Don't let anyone tell you that X, Y, or Z brand lasts longer. I have a bunch of these Win cases that have been fired with full-throttle F/TR loads over 10 times. They are still good.

The down side to Winchester is the thinness of the necks. In a standard chamber, they get expanded too much, and that can lead to concentricity issues. using a non-bushing dies eliminates the problem for me.
