308 185 Berger BTLR seating

Putting a new barrel on my 308 LR gun and I want to make sure I get it throated correctly. My current barrel is throated so that with .010 jam, the bottom of the boat tail is about ~.050 above the shoulder-body junction of the case. I would like to have the bottom of the boat tail just below the neck-shoulder junction, and that would leave me with ~ .015 of the bullet bearing surface in the neck. I guess I am concerned with turbulance created around the boat tail area. I am also extremely anal.

Every rifle is different. Mine likes them jamed .020 Shoot great at 1K

Do you mind sharing your barrel spec's?

Mine, 27" bull, 10 twist, SS . . . deadly @ 600 off .030

Mind sharing your loading information?

I just completed a match with Berger 175 BT's that were a test lot and are no longer available. Great results - won the match -, but sadly the bullet is no longer available. It is NOT the same bullet as Berger currently sells. It had a BC of .536.

I was shooting a mild load of 43 gr of VARGET with the bullets jammed HARD for a velocity of 2733 fps.

George,

You might want to try the Berger 175 Tactical OTM. This bullet has been working very well for me. Not jamming, I'm off the lands using 43.3 Varget, CCI 250, Lapua brass.

I must say my load is HOT. I'm pushing the 185's at 2800 fps in Winchester cases and lit off by Wolf LR primers. This is my 1K load
