.308 175 SMK/TMK .170 Freebore?

Gents,

I'm planning out a .308 F-T/R build off an old Savage long action I had laying around. I've shot a few MR matches with a .223 in F-T/R, but wanted to build a .308 to get my feet wet at 1,000.

That said, I've read that a .170 freebore reamer is ideal for most everything I'll want to shoot at 1k, however I think that's based mostly on the 185 Juggernauts, and the 200.20X bullets.

Because I don't have any real delusions of winning against the shooters at this range, and because it's a recycled Savage action, I'm wanting to go a cheaper route on the bullets. Ideally the 175SMK and the 175 TMK.

If I get this thing throated with a .170 FB reamer, would you expect to touch lands and still have some bullet left in the neck? What velocity would you expect to hit running Varget or 4064 out of Palma brass?

I'll be using a Bart 1:10 finishing out at 28" (I know 30-32" would be better, but can't find a blank that long that'll work on a Savage)

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated. Also, apologies for the newbie questions; this is my first .308.

Thanks!
