.308 155 grain Lapua Scenar

How sensitive is the 155 grain Lapua Scenar in a 308 in regards to jump to the lands? I checked a couple of them in my Tikka T3, and loaded at max magazine length, I still have a 0.070" jump.

Shoot the things. Seems every rifle is a little different. Palma is shot single loaded so try some loaded out to the lands and single feed them vs. mag length. I am curious too.

I'm in the same boat. Best accuracy is with the 155s seated in the lands which means single loading.

The 155s also work pretty well about 0.020" to 0.025" off the lands, but in my rifle that still leaves it too long to mag feed.

Seated to mag length, the accuracy still isn't bad, it'll run 1/2-3/4 moa, but the reduced powder capacity because of the bullet being seated well into the cartridge means that the load is reduced from that used with the bullet seated into the lands. The same powder charge which works with the bullet seated into the land would be way too hot for mag length seating. This rifle has a LOT of freebore.

My experience, and that of most British shooters, is that the 155 Scenar seems to be pretty tolerant both of being jumped and the amount of that jump. And that's a bit odd as it has a fairly aggressive secant ogive form which would make you think it should behave like a VLD design.

I've been running with them in my F/TR rifle at what was originally 15 thou' off the rifling, but imagine that with 1,000 rounds plus through the barrel, and most of them full-house using either Viht N540 or N550 double-base powder loads, that jump will be somewhat greater now.

They do seem to like being driven pretty hard. At the moment, this bullet is still favourite for long-range F/TR in the UK, driven at 3,050-3,100 fps, although several GBFCA registered competitors are looking at moving to fast twist barrels and heavy bullets for the 2010 season.

Yeah I have been looking at these for my trial loads in my DPMS LR-308. 24" bbl with 1-10" twist. I will load to fit the mag and run smooth and adjust from there. I am looking for a little more speed from a gas gun but with a bullet that can ring the steal out to or beond 800yds, I know the 168s and 175s can do it but it would be cool to use the lapua brass and bullets together in that weight.
