308 1 in 10 twist

I was wondering if anyone has ever had or shot a 308 with the 1 in 10 twist and if so how did it work for you?

They shoot great!! The original USMC M40 sniper rifles were all 1-10 twists.

My last barrel was a 1-14 and it would shoot 110's up to the 168's great but a 175 would mae funny holes! since it finally went belly up my next barrel is either a 1-10 or 1-11! what weight bullets are you looking to shoot? Later,

I have a 10 twist .308 and it shoots everything I want it to shoot great. It loves the 178 AMAX. The slowest twist i would get in a .308 is an 11 twist.

thank you for the help I have a barrel and plan on building a hunting rifle for the fiance, Not sure what bullets I want to use, whatever will make a good hunting round for the 308!

There are a bunch of great hunting bullets for the .308 dia. and pretty much any of them will do the job if put in the right place! I had freakin' outstanding luck with the Nosler 125 BT's light on the recoil and would just make a deer pile up! now take it with a grain of salt I don't know how they would work with a misplaced shot I'm sure as good as any of the others all that has to happen is put them where they need to go and you'll be golden. I recently acquired Cooper 22 in 1-10" twist, 24" bbl. So far I only tried 155gr Amax with IMR4064 and I am very happy it.

I use a 1:10 twist barrel. My favorite target bullet is the 155 grain, and my favorite hunting bullet for deer is the Barnes 130 grain tipped triple shock. As for accuracy, both these bullets will average .4 MOA out to 500 yards.

hello,I've even have a Shilen barrel chambered in 308 win.its 26" long HBBL chrome molly with a 1:10 twist for a rem 700 action.it did all of what the other guys said.about 200 +/- rounds been through it.E-mail me if ya want to.

Powderbunz hsa it right. 1 in 10 will go up to 190 in the 308 with good results. The 308 case will not push the light bullets so fast that it is a problem. It will push the 190's fast enough to be effective out to 600 yards but, your velocity at the muzzle will be down around 2550 FPS. Goods luck!!

Hello, i have a savage m12 fvss in a 1 in 10 twist,26 in s/steel barrel. i am using sierra hpbt match and nosler hpbt competion 155's. i am using adi ar2208 which is equal to your varget powder.at the moment i am loading 46.1 grains of powder behind the above projectiles and seating them out to 73 mm o.a.l. this load i use in fclass . this load is good at 300 to 1000 yards with no problems. i am thinking of going higher to 46.2 grains next.i use remington cases and cci large primers. i hope this helps. from barryt

Great trend. Here is what i got going on....
F/TR,F-Class/Target Rifle) Build.
1*Mcmillan A5 stock. With butt spacer system & saddle cheek piece. OD Green / Black / Tan
2*Stiller Predator, Single Shot, Short Action
3*PTG reamer .308 Winchester Match .341'neck, Freebore is .090'
Which is a great no turn diameter for lapua brass.
4*Shilen Select Match Grade 'Heavy Bull' barrel, with 1 in 10' twists and finished length of 28 inches.
Stiller's Precision Firearms got the Barrel from Shilen & is doing Chambering. I'm still waiting.....

I plan on shooting the Sierra 175gr Match King Bullets. For the most part the 175 SMK is the dominate .308 F-TR bullet used today. After calling Sierra I found out that the 1 in 10' twists is versatile. This rifle with its 1 in 10' twists should be able to shoot + or - 175gr SMK Bullets with ease, depending what it likes an at what distance. 'Neck,freebore information is not that plentiful for the .308' so I called PTG an went with what they recommended. I will take a deer with this rig, with what ever gr projectile.
PTG reamer was used once FS $80.00 shipped.

My Savage Tactical is a 1-10 twist. I've shot 175 smk and 178 amaxes out to 1000 yards. It shoots the 178 a little better. Plenty of load testing went into this.

I shoot 150 gr Noslers, with 46 gr. of winchester 760 powder
and they are very accurate in my Stevens.
