300wsm length and freebore

I've been talking with a couple people and I'd like a larger sample to make my final decision.

I'm having a 300wsm done and my smith and I forgot to discuss the freebore on the reamer to be used. I have a barrel now that puts a 210 berger at 2.967" base to tip; 2.280" base to ogive. I have no idea the throat on this one. This barrel will work for hunting since it can be mag fed just fine and can handle as light as 155 vlds.

I have a guy that base to tip is 3.270 with a .205" freebore. My smith chambered my new barrel with a .230" and that, according to the member with the .205, would put me at 3.295". There is barely any bearing surface in the neck. Is this right?

What is your freebore and loaded lengths?

Thanks

Left is extrapolated from a member on here. It would be .230" freebore with a 210vld. Middle is my current barrel with a 210 and right is current barrel with with 155vld.

Doing the math backwards, I would have to have a negative freebore to be back from the .230" extrapolation. (I know there is no negative freebore)

Look at Alex Wheelers video on how to find the lands. A 230 freebore would not put the bullet as deep in the case as you show in picture 2. Matt

That's for the update Matt. I know how to find my lands. The gun is still at my smith awaiting my approval. I don't have it in front of me to check. Trying to do this over the phone and emails.

I've been planning to convert my two Tikka T3's in 300 WSM to long action version and decided to go for it after modeling some bullets in a cutaway case to determine a throat that would work with all the bullets I have in my possession and would potentially use, this is strictly for moose hunting purposes and not intended for comp of any kind
