300WM for varmints, questions

Tonight was the first rounds down the tube, 110vmax 3750 at 81.0g H4350, shoots very well, doesn't copper up. Haven't gone higher yet.

Savage LA w/30" 1 1/16" straight Xcaliber barrel, on a Choate varmint stock filled to the gills with lead shot, 20 lb gun, recoil is quite manageable. We like to see the hits.

Probably have to settle for the H4350 loads as PD trip is in 3 weeks and not enough of other powders in the cabinet and short on time.

Got baptized last weekend.

80 yd shot on a full sized adult. Standing hip shot, which is when you *usually* really see them fly.

Disappointing.


Next day, 3 juveniles lined up at 210 yds on top of a mound-

Never found any chunks, just saw a big chunk fly 50 ft high and 75 ft to the left. Mound covered in red and brown Krylon paint.

I wish we had some, grass and brush was so tall after all the rain this year in that area they were hard to spot.
