300saum to 7saum

when using 300 saum brass to make 7 saum is it just a matter of necking the 300 down and shooting it? thanks in advance

Yes, BUT you need to make sure the case neck is not to big for your chamber. You will normally have to turn the neck!

According to the drawings, that I received from Rem in May of 2001, the case length between the 7mmSAUM 2.035" differs from the 300SAUM 2.015". The headspace also differs between the two.

Hey Bingo1010
I use Nosler 300saum brass, I use a 7mmsaum Redding Full Length non bushing die to neck down.It sizes the complete neck.Once fired, I use a Redding type S Full Length Bushinng die with the correct bushing.

That is basically what I do. I have a Hornady custom FL die and use a RCBS Gold Medal FL Bushing die after the first firing. The Custom Hornady die works fine but the bushing die is needed to adjust neck tension. You can get by with just the FL bushing die however.
By the way you won't find better quallity brass than the Nosler 300 SAUM Brass.

My 7 SAUM Redding S die gave me nothing but run out problems. I tried every trick and I was stuck with .005'ish run out. I had Forster custom hone a FL die for me and now I can keep them nearly as straight as a fired case. I got the die fast and it was exactly what I asked for. I like my Forster Ultra Seater die better too. Its smoother and easier to read and adjust. I have a bucket of Norma brass, but I have been impressed with Nosler brass I handled in other calibers.

A neat trick I was told that seems to work well is to neck size with a lee collet die made by using the mandrel and collet out of a 7-08 die and the body and collet holder from a 300wsm die. I obtained 1 thou and 2 thou under mandrels from lee to mess with neck tension. Seems to work well.

I do neck turn the rem 7 saum brass just to take the high spots off but if you have a sloppy factory chamber you might get away with not turning the necked down 300 saum. If you don't neck turn the collet die works good as the imperfections are forced to the outside of the neck
