300NMI 245 Berger Loads

Question on the Retumbo thing....I read a few posts like you, but they were 10 or more years old, and there were concerns about DANGEROUS PSI spikes at COLD temps. Is that still a thing. I steered away from my 8 pounder of Retumbo and went with RL33 for my 1st tests.

Not a 300 NM, but a 300 rum with HEAVY bullets.

Tod
I used nothing but Retumbo on my 338 Lapua Ackley Improved since 2009. Never experienced any pressure spikes in both cold and warmed weather. Retumbo is very stable. It is my powder of choice also for my 416 VELR and my 300 Norma Magnum.

I find with the N568, you can't hardly put enough in the case to max it out.
Not sure if it's cause it burns cooler or it's slower than N570 (not suppose to be)
N570 is one of the better powders to get the most out of this case.
N568 considerably less nitro and less energy content than n570
N570 has the most, n555 the least.
N568 has second least and is less dense than N570

Thank you!!

This year we are shooting Rogue River and Best of the West in Oregon, DMR ELR in Idaho, La Grange ELR in Wyoming, and possibly Raton ELR in August. We also shoot the KRG match in Wyoming and we shot the Nightforce match in Wyoming for several years.
I might be at best of the west, not sure yet as I have a few things happening then.
I need to look into the rogue river match.
I like that area and it’s a good excuse to go fishing if timing is right.

Tagging in on this thread. Great start. Followed a few other guys on their journey with a 300NMI. Having a 338 LMI, I didn't ever feel like it was necessary. My best friend and hunting partner of over 40 years died last summer and had one built before dying. He never got a chance to get it out before his death. I'm hoping his widow will contact me some day and ask if I'm interested in buying any of his guns. That will be one that I purchase. I'll archive these threads for that day. I helped with the build a bit recommending components and specs. That rifle needs a good new home. Unfortunately he had no kids interested in the firearms.
