300 yd f class scope ?

which would be your scope, power and reticle for 300 yd f class shooting ? My 72 year old eyes are having a hard time with the fine cross hair and dot on the all black f class target.

Get a scope with a daylight bright illumination. That way you can see the red over the black easier. What is the price range you are looking at spending and power range of the scope you want?

I was thinking maybe a Nigtforce in 12 - 42 x 56 power but not sure about which reticle
or possibly a sightron 8-32x56 but again not sure which reticle

what do you guys use or recommend ?

Hmm, 300y is close for mirage. I'd say a Weaver t-36 or used Leupold competition 45x

The Nightforce NP2DD reticle is perfect.

I agree with illumination. Kahles 624 Gen-3 with the MOAK reticle. It is a completely illuminated reticle in the FFP. Very high-end optic......It would be a great scope for your stated purpose.

Rick

I have a sightron 8 - 32 with the dot crosshair and it is very hard to see on the black target. That is why I am thinking an illuminated reticle would better suit my needs. At 72 my vision is not what it used to be. lol
The two scopes I mentioned I would be looking for used as the price for new would be out of my reach.

I know a lot of guys use the NF 8-32 x 56...but I don't shoot comps so can't offer firsthand advice.

I do shoot long range though, and I've never had a day where I would be able to use 80x magnification...our scopes are max 24x, and many days that magnification can be unusable at even 600 yards due to mirage.

I suppose it has a lot to do with where you shoot. Mirage is the obvious killer, and in Florida, over the hot sand, in the summertime...

Sightron s3 10-50×60mm ir-moa scope with Dan Pohlabel mirage cap. Greatly reduces mirage. Testing a Dan Pohlabel prototype insert on front objective to help with my astigmatism. It helps me center reticle crosshair more consistently as well as stock cheek position. Looks like a smallbore insert but for Sightron scope.

Sightron S3 10-50-60 in either the new ED models or possibly one of the older S3 with the LRMOA2 reticle.

Excellent performance out to 600m. 300M works brilliantly.

The Vortex Golden Eagle also comes with a similar mirage cap. It screws into the objective and the screw in cap will screw into it also.
