300 yard shooting

Well I made it to the range this afternoon to shoot my new load at 300 yards. I'm not sure what to think? I am going to make another trip in the early morning because the mirage was terrible today with the range having soaked in the sun all day. I mostly wanted to check my drop at 300. It looks like I'm dropping about 2 moa from a 100 yard zero. I shot one group without any scope adjustment, one with 2moa on the turret and then I decided to shoot one shot at each diamond on a new target. Well, mock away lol

Shooting extremely well at 100 yards. like I said the mirage was very bad, it was hard to make sure you were actually on the bullseye.

I got up at 5:30 this morning. There was zero wind and the temperature was about 60 degrees. Not only were conditions better but I felt better. I also used some better targets. I took some pics of my setup and the range for you. All in all it was a much better session!

What ya think?

I’ve never had any luck with those soft Protektor bags, too much roll/ movement and not enough stable tracking.
Some guys can do it, I’m just not one of them.

I'm actually working on a replacement, I agree that is has a lot of roll. I'm also not sure about this bag rider? I think I liked my old one better. I may put it back on.

What do you use for a rear rest?

I would like to give this a try.

If that seat that's attached swings to the other side I'd suggest using a seat that's not attached to the bench.

Not that it’s a bad thing, but that’s not a benchrest setup. It’s not going to track, return to battery, etc. If it were mine, I would ditch the front bag for a nice bipod, turn the rear bag around and use it as a squeeze bag for elevation control (you may need to deflate it a bit). Needs to be a relaxed, natural point of aim with no straining, reaching, tensing up, etc. With some practice, you’ll be able to stack them close. Not competitive benchrest close, but possibly good enough for what you’re trying to do.

The SD’s in your example here (shots relative to one another on target as measured by inches/MOA) suggest what you can expect on target from those same variables given a similar sample size with no other changes in the many vairables of shooting. If you’ve got your bench manners in check, ambient conditions don’t change, rifle in same condition, the same load should produce the results on target very close to your SD. I hope I didn’t confuse you.

Thanks much! No confusion! Bench manners are probably my downfall lol I've never shot with a benchrest shooter. Everything I've ever done has been self learned so.......
