300 WSM brass flow

New to the forum so sorry for whatever. 300WSM Stiller predator action, 26" lilja 3 groove barrel, using federal brass, 180gr accubond @ .08 from lands, loading with 68gr of reloader 19, 3020fps, also this was once shot brass. Shoots great but the brass is flowing into the ejection port at base of shell. I have also tried 165 gr, once I hit 3200fps I have the same problem. I've dumbed it down and using Winchester brass now. Im in need of reloading again and would like to get a 180 to 3000. Any thoughts on brass or other things I'm doing wrong. Would appreciate your thoughts.

Dumbed it down? Like just backed off the powder? Sounds like the solution, if so. You might need tougher brass if you want to push it. Brass flowing is sure sign of over pressure. Can I ask what's the difference between 3000 and ~2950?

First, welcome to the forum.
Second: All guns are different. I’ll add to Adam’s comment about over pressure. You’re pushing into a dangerous area. You should back off your load. What you would “like” doesn’t matter. What is safe in your particular gun does. Loading manuals are a guide, but some guns won’t shoot their max loads safely.

Just asking the question, is some brass softer than others is there any tricks to harden brass. I do understand that all guns are different and I do understand the safe max loads and pressure. I new to the site not new to reloading. Sorry

Yes. Some brass is softer than others. Lapua recently released 300wsm Brass. You might want to work up your load in your gun with it to see where pressure shows up.

Note, like others, I said work load up. If you start seeing pressure, why would you continue to shoot? You know what they say: Play stupid games get stupid prizes.

You are way over pressure, your only chance would be with a slower powder like Reloder 23 or H4831 SC. Start low on your charge and work up gradually and watch for stiff bolt lift, flattened primers, and brass flow into ejector leaving impression in the case head. If you see any of these, STOP! You might also try N555 powder

Federal brass is a bit soft in my opinion, decent as long as you don’t get overly sporty.

I’ve had good results with Winchester, it’s thinner construction gives go case volume and in a solid rifle it will take some pressure and live a while.

If you want to step on it adg or lapua brass are good choices if available.

Speaking from experience - you can ruin even Lapua brass with loads that are too warm before marking the headstamp. Should have been happy with reasonable speed instead of seeing just what it could do.

Thanks you got it
