300 WSM and 215 Berger?

Ballistic64. Do the calculation on the bullet you are shooting. There is variation in the different brands. I think the 185 Bergers will work, don't know about Sierra, Lapua, Nosler, etc.

Im having one built right now using an ultramag long action from a sendero. I spec'd a freebore of .225 and planned on shooting 210s. Will this freebore still allow seating 180-190 gr bullets into the lands?
You will probably be ok with the 190 but they will out the neck pretty good. Might be a little short for 180. May be the 180 will shoot good jumping and you will be ok. I really like the 210 VLD hunting bullet. Matt

Steve How are you calculating the optimal throat length of a 215 vs. 230 hybrid? Berger shows a longer length of 0.076" for the 230, all of which is in the longer base to ogive measurement of
plus 0.076" for the 230. Just wondering for my own education on the subject. Thanks

Bill, [br]
Berger lists the 230 Hybrid length as 1.64". I've shot six lots of these bullets and none have been that short. They range from 1.66-1.69". Most lots are ~1.665. The feedback from other shooters is that 215 Hybrids are ~1.575". My .280" freebore allows roughly .030" jump before contacting the donut. Since there is ~.090" difference between the two bullets, .280-.090=.190". [br]
My original calculations were done by laying out Bryan Litz's bullet drawing in 2D CAD software and ordering the reamer to match. This method arrived at similar numbers to those other folks have used.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but what is the coal when loading the Berger 215 Hybrid touching the lands with a .188 freebore?

Without having a 215 to measure, I cannot know the answer. I usually don't care about COAL unless entering data into QuickLOAD. My competition rifles are single shot, so the only dimension that matters is the relationship to the lands.

Thanks. Just trying to figure if I can run them in a rifle with Wyatt extended box at 2.995" or less. The SAMMI freebore length is within the range you said would be optimum for them so I'm thinking I could use them single fed loaded long and still be able to use other bullets fed from the magazine.....?? Guess I'll find out :-)
