?? 300 WSM, 165 TTSX, and Superformance powder ??

Gotta get ready for Nov Elk hunt in WY. Have a couple dozen once-fired Norma brass in my Kimber 8400 and a new box of Nosler brass with the aforementioned bullets and powder as well as CCI LR Mag primers.
1. Appreciate any load info you wish to share.
2. How far back do you seat that bullet?

Thanks.

I have shot Barnes in a lot of rifles. I had a 300 WSM and killed a couple elk with the 165 TSX. In my experience, the Barnes like to jump. My minimum jump has been around 0.060 and I have some loads that jump 0.250" or so. Id try 60, 80 100 and 120k jump. One of those should shoot well. Then use that as a base and shorter and longer in 3 thousandth increments.

Good luck on your elk hunt!

I’ve been shooting Barnes 210 TTSX in a 338-06 and have been able to get MOA @ .130 & .060 jump but they se to work best for me at .023. This info is in regard to Barnes bullets only and not the 300 WSM.

Thanks. Nice to hear from a fellow CA hunter. I have looked extensively at the Hodgdon and Barnes web sites. Lots of contradicting load data. There is none on the Hodgdon site for TTSX or TSX 165 - only Hornady 165 GMX - similar I guess just .011" longer. I will start at 60 and keep going back. Once minute-of-elk is achieved, I will stop. Wish I could find some mono 300 WSM ammo here.

My long time load for my 300 WSM is 64 grains of H4350, Fed 210, and 168 TTSX .020" off the lands. That is with Rem brass and is good for around 3000 fps. Norma brass would need to be about 1/2 grain less. When I redo this load I will try IMR 4451. It seems to be worth a little more velocity, which makes sense since it is double based.

I have never found that TSXs and TTSXs needed to jump, but then again I sort my bullets BTO. There is usually a lot of variance in ogives on Barnes bullets and one way to mitigate the effects of that variance is a large jump.

I recently used a large jump to get another bullet with excellent terminal ballistics--but inconsistent ogives--to shoot well. Unsorted Nosler ABLRs.

All that said, the further off the lands we can get a bullet to tune thee less sensitive it is to throat erosion.
