300 win mag

I just built a 300 win mag with a 1:8 twist. From what I have found heavier rounds are better for that twist. I’m thinking 200 grain or more. I am hoping someone could help me with a best round weight and powder amount. I will be using it for long range competition mostly and possible for some large game hunting.
Thank you for any help

H-1000 and the 215 Berger would be a good start. I did load work-up on my son's 300wm. Accuracy node was 2,900- 2,975 fps IIRC.

74-76 grs H-1000 depending on your chamber.

I have no suggestions on loads but this interests me because I'm starting to put together a 300 WinMag and just today I spent quite a bit of time on the web looking at barrels. I had decided on a 1:10 twist because, well, it seems that 300WinMags are always 1:10.

But I do have a profiled, threaded 1:8 barrel that is not chambered. I just thought it would not be suitable. Have you shot with your 1:8 yet? If so how has that worked so far?

With an 8 twist it'll be hard to find a bullet long enough to be under spun. Berger suggests a 9 twist for their 245gr Elite Hunter.Screenshot_20200910-045455_Drive.jpg

I'm shooting 230gr Bergers in a 10 twist at 700' ASL in a 300rum.
Hows retumbo in this combo?
I've tried Retumbo for this combo but never really got any precision.

H-1000 and 180 grain Accubond here. Very accurate in my x bolt. And has taken down elk at 400 yards

With the 8twist, you could definitely take advantage of the Berger 230 gns. I run them in my 10 twists, 27 inch barrels with great success. I also use the Berg 215s as well. H1000 is the powder of my choice and Fed GM 215 primers. I generally do not offer powder charges due to liabilty purposes but if you take published load data for each, you can work your way up to what works comfortably, safely and accurately for you. The combination of components will stricly rely on what your barrel prefers.
