300 Win Mag Powders

David7676,

I've used N-165 or N-570 with the Berger and Hornady 220gr. class heavies in 300 WM with WLRMs and nominal COL. Both work well in long or short barreled rifles. I don't have the load data available.

Old thread, I wonder if anybody will read this….

Doing a 300WM LOAD for Tikka Veil 1:10

220gr Hornady ELD-x, 1 time fired federal brass, N565, CCi LRMP, COAL max magazine 3.3420

71 grains had a ES of 2
velocities of 2612 2610 2612

72.5 grains had a ES of 22
velocities of 2692, 2670, 2686

73 grains had a ES of 22
velocities of 2688 2676 2662

Anybody have any experience is N565? Doing seating depth test next.

Don't worry about ES with 3 shot groups. I don't even consider ES/SD until I shot 10 shots over the chronograph.

How long is your barrel ?? How long is your C.O.A.L. ??
Just wondering for curiosity sake.

Unless you're seating them out passed 3.600" COAL,.. N-565 should be pretty good in the 300wm with 200 ELD-X.

I used to shoot 240 SMK in F.C. brass, 215m primers and RL-33, with 26" barrel 300wm. 3.490" COAL ( to fit magazine). Got up to 2,800 fps no problem and middle of the node was at 2,770 fps.

I have had good luck with 210s and 230s with 7828SSC, the vast majority of my 300WM loads are loaded with Magpro. Works best with standard LR primers, not Magnums, meters well, low ES. Shoots great out to a mile. I live in the AZ desert, never have a problem with "temperature sensitivity" which, in practical terms, I consider a fiction invented by Hodgdon's marketing dept when they started selling Aussie powder. Others may disagree but that's my experience.

Have used H1000, RL 22 and VV N550 with great results with 200.20X Berger, Hdy 208 ELD-X and ELD-M, and Hdy 220 ELD-X. Savage 110 elite precision 30” barrel 1:10 twist. Did my own recipes with IMR 4831, H4831and H4831SC to throw Hdy 225 ELD-Match. Sweetest has been using IMR 4831 (with nearly identical #s with H4831). So far not seeing any significant temp instability with IMR but will switch to Hodgdon when my stock is depleted. Using fire formed Lapua brass (1-3 firings), and BR-2 primers. Results - Two wide nodes: lower node sweetest spot was 66.2 gr (2797 fps, SD 2, ES 4 w/ .21” group). Entire node centered on 65.9 gr with avg velocity at 2795 (64.5-66.5 w/ SD 9, ES 19 to SD 4, ES 8 and groups .39” or less). Upper node sweetest spot (and node center) on 68.0 gr with avg velocity of 2839, SD 3, ES 6 w/ .18” group. Entire node spanned 67.7-68.5 w/ SD 9, ES 19 to SD 7, ES 13 and groups .38” or less.

My choices would be N570, N568, H1000, N565.....in that order.

Shooting 215gr Berger Hybrid at around 2935-2950 with N570 out of a Christensen ELR 300 win mag.

I'd like to see you shot from a front rest and rear bag instead of a leadslead.
Then your rifle will behave naturally, so will you point of impact.
As for n565, I just bought a jug to try with 200.20x in a 26" 300WM. Just haven't gotten around to loading any you.
