.300 win mag loads

new here guys. i just purchased a finnbear and want to work up a 150 gr. load. any thoughts on what powder has given you top velocity/accuracy is appreciated. i want 3,400 fps mv,,,thanks

3,400fps is going to be tough to get. I use H1000 out of my Rem700 300 win and get .75 groups using 150gr barnes bullets. But i've never checked it on a chronograph, but hodgdon load data says 3,255fps.

IMR 4831 is still one of the best powers in 300 win mag, try a Fed 215 Mag or CCI 250 Mag primer. A Start load of 73gr and work up to max load of 78 grs.
This should get a 150 gr to 3360 fps out of a 24 inch barrel.

+ 1 sfor 4831 and i used 9 1/2 primers. in the mid 70gr range you should get into 3300+ watch for abolt lift and case expansion in front of the belt,
i had hart bbl 26" and got .400"

H4831 is the powder of choice I have used the H 1000 but it didn't shoot as well as the H4831. I got the best groups with 75.0 H4831 Fed 215M Nosler Ballistic tip ,020 off the lands. I think 3400fps is more in the range of the Rem ultra mag. 3200fps is about the fastest my 300 Win mag does with 150's

Don`t overlook good ole IMR4350 with a 150 Nosler Accubond. Awesome groups. Although I didn`t chronograph them.

i appreaciate your help. i can't find where RL17 ranks on the powder burn chart. alliant just says it's the same as IMR4350. i'm getting the 3,400 fps form bob hagels data. in my .270 and .338 sakos i get the velocities bob was getting in some of his rifles. i chonograph my loads on 2 machines. have any of you seem the burn rate ranking of RL17? thanks for the help/sharing of data!

well the Alliant book says 3333 fps with a BTSP useing R17 @ a 74gn max load.and again the same book says its burn rate is right along 4350.yeah one more thing the COAL is at 3.330.so if you hange the bullet out you might just get what your looking for.just be safe and keep a good eye on pressure.
