300 win mag barrel crack

That does not appear to be a crack. It's too uniform, for one thing (and too wide). And, if the barrel truly were cracked there, in that manner, I suspect that the barrel would have broken off there by now. My money is on a chip picked up during manufacture leaving an impression in the bore.

I believe what you're experiencing is the old adage about 'Don't buy a borescope. You may not like what you see.'

That’s my idea of a “perfect” barrel - one that shoots great and has some quirk where there’s no reason to handle it with kid gloves.

Aren't Remington barrels hammer forged? Maybe that was a flaw on the mandrel around which the blank was hammered to form the rifling? Just a thought.
I think they have been doing it both ways... the new line setup for the 783/X7 was button, but everything in NY with the 700 may have stayed hammer forged. So, yeah, could have been a flaw in the mandrel or a chip that got into the barrel when the forge process was interrupted for some reason like lunch or a smoke break.

There's some truth here. Like when you drive an old beater truck, you'll take it to the woods and park it anywhere, but your new truck gets babied.

That is wild! I feel for you, but at least it shoots. If it were a crack, it would go all the way through and it would come back to itself and not spiral.
