300 Win Mag and 200gr Barnes LRX

Good afternoon all,

Are any of you running a 300 Win Mag with the Barnes 200gr LRX? I wanted to use H1000, but its really compressed at 74gr, which is no where near the max charge. Was just curious if someone else had already done the leg work to find what powder allowed good velocity with the extra volume this bullet takes up in the case.

I'm loading for a Tikka with a detachable mag and max OAL is 3.370

Thanks in advance,
Terry

Here’s what Barnes says and it lists H1000 as compressed. There are more powders there that will do the job too and not be so compressed.
I’ve never shot this bullet, but 7828, H4831 and Rl22 are excellent in this cartridge.

Thanks for that.

I'm picking up some RL-22 and 23 on Tuesday. I'll give those a go.

I tried this bullet in my 300 Win mag. My rifle BSA Cf2 has a mag that allows me to use an OAL of 3.420 and even with this oal I found that the bullet was too long for this case. I used rl-26--IIRC--and still found that the bullet took up to much case cap for my liking. Results were very compressed loads, something I am not fond of. I found the 175 LRX with RL-26 worked much better. There was only a very slight compression with my max load(77grs), great accuracy and velocity. JMO

I would try RE25 first, then RE26.
It gives you more energy for less powder and, I never experienced the temp insensitivity with RE25 that the interwebs would lead you to believe.
A few of the Vhit powders would also suit your needs.

Cheers.
