300 Weatherby Loads

I have read a lot about the deep throat of the 300 Weatherby and I have loaded for it for over 20 years. Does anyone have any experience with different cartridge lengths besides max recommended COL? I have noticed that factory loads are not max COL. I am sure there is a reason that factory loads are shorter, just wondering if anyone else has tested different cartridge lengths.

I would guess factory ammo is crimped so the bullet is seated to place the crimp in the cannalure. I have always seated the bullet deep enough for good neck tension and adjusted powder for the best accuracy. My best results have been with flat base Spitzer bullets and my guess is longer bearing surface helped in the long throated chamber. I would expect solid copper bullets to shoot well because of the longer length to weight but I ve not had any need to try them.

Here are the Weatherby freebore lengths:

Enjoy? You mean the recoil? :)
Muzzle brakes help with recoil, but still about 30-40 rounds is all I can take without developing a flinch I have to do dry fire practice to eliminate. So testing to find the exact rounds takes multiple range days. It is fun a fun gun as it brings everything down it shoots.
