300 Ultra Mag

Was thinking of re-barreling my 300 Ultra Mag and was wondering who makes the best brass for it. I thought I read somewhere that Lapua was going to start but that has been a while back and have not seen any yet. Looking for consistency in weight and neck wall thickness.
Thanks
Terry Pohl

I would NOT do another 300 Ultra mag... If you want that much power, go to a 300 Norma Mag (not to be confused with the 308 Norma mag).. It has literally the same or even a bit MORE powder... The good news is you can obtain brass and excellent brass at that!

If you want I can PM you my gunsmith. He builds them fairly often and knows them very well... He would be glad to discuss them with you.

Get a hold of Shawn Carlock and see if he has any more of his Burtram 338 EDGE Brass. Simply neck it down to 30 and load. Much better than Remmy ULTRA brass.

Shawn is an advertiser over at the LRH website....Defensive Edge.

Good luck.

A shooter at Williamsport shot a 300 Norma last year Couldn't get much over 2900 with a 210 Berger and destroyed the brass at that. I thought Norma made 300 Ultra brass now. Matt

Hey DK, I have no idea what powder that fellow was shooting BUT my gunsmith makes them on a regular basis for L/R tactical.. He shoots the Berger 230 Hybrid at a "comfortable" 3050 out of a 28" barrel... He uses RL-33 powder..

Lots of good advice, I have a norma with a defiance-krieger combo, shoots is right 230 gr Berger @ 3020 with a mild load of retumbo(84.4) only problem there is different bolt face between norma and rum's. Have a 7rum that needs a new tube, thinking of doing an edge? Problem for me in any utra mag configuration is loooong cases. I guess one solution would be a wyatts box and opening up the action? Either way, good dilemma's to have. Good luck

Old thread but...

This is THE brass to look for. 20231207_210352.jpg

That said, I'm on my fifth firing on Norma brass with 230gr Bergers at 3150 fps. 26" barrel.

Some people have reservations for building a 300 Norma on a standard tenon diameter action. The bigger case head diameter. They say the thinner pipe walls don't handle the pressure well. That's probably the reason for short case life .

46and2 doesn't one of the other new brass makers also make Ultra Mag brass?
I'm not sure.
When I built my current 300rum ADG wasn't around, so I went with Norma.
After using their brass on other cartridges I bought enough to last a couple of more barrels.
