Just for the record, I had already decided to replace my 300WM barrel with a 300PRC.

300PRC did better than the 300 Norma mag? I thought the military just picked up the 300
Norma mag last year? They just dropped it like that because the PRC is that much better? I’m a little doubtful. Litz has stated a few times he hasn’t seen more first round hits at a mile than with a 300 NM

That is interesting considering that recently(within the last year) the government approved new contracts for sniper rifles chambered in 300 WM.

Today, the Department, headed by Secretary of Defense Ash Carter, is not only in charge of the military, but it also employs a civilian force of thousands. With over 1.4 million men and women on active duty, and 718,000 civilian personnel, we are the nation's largest employer. Another 1.1 million serve in the National Guard and Reserve forces. More than 2 million military retirees and their family members receive benefits.

The DoD is the overseer of all of the military and it's counterparts. It has it's own personnel but does not make the selections of arms or ammunition for any of the other branches of the military.

The 300 Precision Rifle Cartridge (PRC), released by Hornady earlier this year, was tested and selected by the Department of Defense for its extended long range sniper program following a rigorous evaluation process that saw the new 300 PRC outperform the 300 Norma Mag as well as several other cartridges in testing past 2,000 yards.

This is a completely different program from the other branches of the U.S. military which are using the Norma Magnum in combat.

When loaded up to 3,000 fps, this bullet from the 300 Norma Mag will stay supersonic out to 1,500 meters! This is as far as a much heavier 300gr SMK shot out of a 338 Lapua can make it before it goes subsonic!
