300 PRC factory rifle

Evening everyone. I've currently got a Tikka in 308W, seemed the perfect place to learn more about "proper" rifles. I've always shot pistols, rimfire rifles, Marlins (pistol calibre) and shotguns.

My plan is to shoot the 308 mostly at sub 800yds and when the opportunity arises shoot longer range, up to 2000yds, with a 300 PRC. I'm not really looking to be competitive or hunt, just for the challenge and fun. Money no object I'd go and drop a large sum, 5K+ on a custom rifle but short of my numbers coming up that's not happening!

If you were buying a factory rifle in 300 PRC today what would you buy? My initial thought is a Bergara Premier Pro, seems to be good out of the box. It's a shame Tikka don't do one, they only make them in 300WM. Why 300 PRC? Better option for a factory rifle, a custom 300WM would be just as capable but as far as I can understand SAAMI spec factory rifles won't cope with long, heavy high BC bullets?

I have the Christensen arms Mesa long range 300 prc and am very happy with it. I shoot the 245 bergers and 250 Atips. Still working on tuning the 250’s a little more. I stuck an amd tuner on it that helps. I’ve also made sure from bugholes it wouldn’t be a problem to rebarrel when the time comes.

Looks like a very nice rifle and reasonably priced. I'm not sure if they are available in the UK? I know we'd be lucky to get them at that price. The prices over here are very high. I got my Tac A1 "cheap" at £1,600. I think they are £1,800+ now.

Edit: I for got to add I reload and quite enjoy the process as the volume required is much less than for pistol shooting. My 1990 Rockchucker is still going strong.

I have the Ruger new model hawkeye l9ong range in 300 win mag and it shoots very well.
Has a 1-9 twist for heavy bullets and also made in 300 prc

You need to make sure you have the mag box length you need before you purchase any rifle you want to shoot the 300PRC and heavies.

Good advice, from what I've been reading you need a little over 3.7". I've seen posts where owners have measured the internal length of the Bergara magnum magazines at 3.7". I presume being a Remington 700 clone you could change the bottom metal at some point and use different magazines?

The Christensen rifles look good and are 1:8 rather than the 1:9 twist of the Bergaras. I think they've just started to come into the UK but I've not seen any 300 PRC models over here yet.
