.223, would you rather shoot a 69grn smk @ 3300fps or a 77grn smk @ 2900fps wind is left to right 10-15mph

this is my local range matches and i have the above 2 loads that shoot -.3 moa.

At my local club, tested 69,3100) and 80,2900) MKings at 300 metres in my .223 30 inch 8 twist MacLennon barrel prior to going to the Canadian Fullbore Champs in Ottawa this past August.

Also tested 75,3000) AMax. The 75 AMax gave the most consistent 1/2 moa groups in all conditions at 300 metres compared to the 69s and 80s.

Shot the 2 day Sierra 300 metre ISU match at the Canadians with the 75 AMax, 120 scoring shots plus sighters. Didn`t win but I am convinced that I shot a better score with the 75s than if I had used 69s or 80s.

Am using H4895 and CCI 450s. Must use the magnum primers. Non-magnum primers will pierce at those velocities.

Have been shooting 1000 yard F Class with chaps using even stiffer loads, getting the 80s up to 3000 fps. But on a rainy day when the cartridges get wet and there is a hydraulic lock in the chamber so the brass cannot expand I have seen those chaps get a faceful of gas as even the 450s pierce.

That is why some shooters have given up on the .223 as a long range cartridge. Can`t get the velocities they want with sane pressures. You have to be happy with 100 fps less and live with it.
