300 & 600 Bench rest

Putting a BR project together. Components so far : -
Action - BAT model B octagonal
Barrel - Bartlein #9 Heavy varmint 28in
Stock - Robertson GB F Class
Trigger - Jewel

Now here's my dilemma calibre!! - 6mmBR, 6.5 x 47, or even 6XC??

Input much appreciated, initially thought had made my decision but then got talking to a BR gunsmith here in the UK, and he adv to seriously consider the 6.5 x 47. So now I am having last minute doubts!

Howdy !

I just saw your initial thread...now 3 days old.

I don't know the relative availability of various cases at your location. That consideration may impact you ultimate case choice.

The newish 6.5 X 47 and 6 X 47 ' wildcat ' seem to be gaining a large following. Being able to obtain great Lapua brass rtaes way up there as an important consideration for mnay
6.5 X 47 & 6 X 47 users. Not that 6XC brass is lacking in some way, only that 6XC brass may not be as universally available; nor quite as easy to obtain as the _ x 47s.

Use of a 6 X 47 and appropriate bullets for varmint or target; would give you capablities out to 1,000yd.... given the right rifle set-up. So, capability isn't an issue. Certainly going with a 6mm version of the _ X 47 would avail the shooter of a wide variety of excellent 6mm bullets....many more choices than use of a 6.5mm bore would presemt.

Just some thoughts.

Best of luck in your endeavors !
