30 years hunting Wyoming antelope

:)If we draw this year.

In 1984 my son and I were invited to join another father and son team to hunt Wyoming antelope. The years have slipped by but every March we have sent money to Wyoming in hopes of drawing tags. 52 buck tags in 29 years, my son and I have filled them all! Plus a number of doe fawn tags.

Yes I love to hunt the high plains drifters, and I know how to care for the creatures to enjoy at the dinner table.

For city boys the camping trips to Wyoming are a special time. An adult beverage by a warm camp fire at the end of the day is also time for a toast to a
hunter that has passed on to the great hunting ground.

My son and I have used a number of rifles and pistols but one rifle stands out from the rest. WE say " when all else fails get the blue gun"!

The "Blue" gun is a custom 243AI with a Shillian 1 in 8 twist barrel, blue and white stock and topped with a Leupold long range scope. The standered load used Nosler Combined TEch 95 grain bullets.

A check of hunting pictures sees at least five hunters holding that special rifle with their trophy bucks.

Our ace in the hole for many years was on a private ranch in area 26. But the family decided to close the ranch to hunting for a couple years to maybe grow some bigger animals.

We used up our points last year and managed to draw four any antelope tags in area 87 but zero doe fawn tags.

So....Two of our young hunters have a point or two, maybe that will get us a foot in the door.

They are fun to hunt, to be sure. I started out hunting them in Colorado, moved to Wyoming for a few seasons. The past five or six years have been spent chasing these speed goats in Montana. Mostly with archery equipment in Montana put occasionally with firearm. Last season was sort of special as our son and grandson joined my wife and I in eastern Montana. Last tag filled when my wife took hers from 419 yards plus I took one of my better bucks at 17 inchs.

For those who haven't tried it, do yourself a favor and give it a try, you'll be glad you did.

Tried but pictured choked site. Not sure why such a small file size requirement. This should be worked on...

I'll be going back this year for my third consecutive try.

I love hunting these things and don't know why. I guess its just a fun low impact hunt, and a guy gets to see game ALL the time.

We hunted 26 the last two years but were limited to public land, or maybe the lack there of.....But we still came home with respectable goats.
