30 whisper

Gerry, I've built dozens of rifles in this caliber, Bunches of fun to shoot. The cases are a one pass through the dies and also form readily from .223 with a trim. Extremely efficient in sub sonic or supersonic loads . Lots of load data available on various sites.

wow thanks.'''
Have more information? best twist, web site and information Please''' This model 7 in 20 tactical isn't the best in these winds' I was thinking of a re barrel.
Can you give me a pm with prices etc/
Thanks ''''

If I am not mistaken there was a pretty good article in the latest NRA's American Rifleman magazine on that cartridge. If I remember correctly it discusses load data, case forming and has a lot of good info. Check it out.

Thanks for the reply on the rifleman.
I get it every month. bet i missed this one'
I get so busy at times i have little time to read it half the time'

Thanks for the info on the web site''
It looks like they are using it more in the ar with short barrels. I was thinking of re barreling my model 7
They are also talking a fast twist. I'm thinking a 10 inch twist max.

Thanks Lynn"
That's good information. I'm thinking 168 and 150 sierras.
Maybe even the 125 TNT for target. which one is better?
It's still in the plans. I'm also thinking a 20 inch barrel.

I bought a Ruger 77 that was built into a 300 Whisper with a 1-10 twist using a Shilen Select #4. The barrel was threaded for a silencer and the seller kept it for all the obvious reasons. I use H110 powder and shoot the lighter bullets out of it. I can tell you that it will lob 220's into a small hole but once you try and shoot lighter bullets it opens up. The 125's won't shoot better than 2" but 168's will group around 1". When I bought it I figured there was no way it would feed but whomever built it knew what they were doing. It feeds slick as snot from the mag and with the light barrel is easy to carry.

Savage guy....you can use your 223 brass and it is real easy no reforming to 221 necessary. The 223 brass is cut off right behind the shoulder, cant recall exact length. Then the shortened case is run into a 30/221 forming die and your whisper case is ready to go.
A 30/223 would probably work but is more case capacity than needed by a long shot for shooting even 240s sunsonic.
My 8 twist kreiger is a few weeks out....I hope, but I went ahead and made a few cases from 223 and it was a snap. I used my lathe but it looks like a small tubing cutter would be easy to use to shorten the brass.

All,

A .30 Whisper is based on a .30 Carbine case.
A .300 Whisper is based on a .221 Fireball case, necked up to .30 caliber.

THE TWO ROUNDS ARE NOT THE SAME.
