30 Nosler

I made it out today to get some initial data with my 30 Nosler. I loaded 215 Bergers at 3.660" over H1000 in new cases. Barrel is a 25" rock creek.

80- 2850 fps
81- 2902 fps
82- 2929 fps
83- 2972 fps
84- 3032 fps
85- 3069 fps
86- 3106 fps
87- 3145 fps

It was hot today, and mirage was terrible. However from the coarse ladder I am going to focus from 84-86. It looks like it wants to shoot high 3000s. My first sign of bolt lift came at 86 grains. These are new cases and it was pretty hot in the sun today, so I think thats a safe upper limit.

Those are impressive velocities for a bullet that heavy. What is the intended use for the rifle - F-open, 1000 yd BR, hunting?

After a long wait of six plus months, I received my new 30 Nosler build. Most of the wait was for the reamer my Gunsmith ordered from JGS.
My goal was to get the Berger 230 Target Hybrids close to 2900-fps, and so far my expectation have been met and exceeded.

Bartlein 9-twist Heavy Varmint at 28"

Retumbo with Fed 215M's

80-gr = 2843-fps
81-gr = 2895-fps
82-gr = 2940-fps
83-gr = 2990-fps
84-gr = 3041-fps

At 84-gr I had a very slight stiff bolt lift, and light ejector mark imprent. Primer was still well rounded.

I'm finishing up my barrel break-in and scope zero using 82.5-gr resulting in a constant 2976-fps.

This cartridge is awesome to say the least.

Shot the 30 Nosler at 1000-yards on steel today. Because I had a mix-up between a very old lot and a newer lot of bullets, only had five rounds of known previously tested (on paper at 100-meters) loads to try. I didn't want to waste them checking velocity (Magnetospeed). My load was 81.5-gr, so guessing my velocity was around 2925-fps, and that's what I put in the ballistics calculation.

Shot a few rounds of loads with older bullets first, then with 6.3-Mils of elevation dialed, my five good rounds held pretty good elevation with hits and misses at the lower edge of the plate.

Need more time and good weather for more testing, this load shows good promise.
