30 Major

I think that's the thing about this cartridge though. Is it better than a 30BR? Maybe not, but has anyone (other than maybe Mike) put enough time and effort into testing a Major vs a 30BR to truly know which one outperforms which? I doubt it.

The benefit to a Major is being able to use a PPC boltface, and not give anything up to a 30BR, while not having to mess around with brass. Rebate rims, open bolt face etc. Similar velocity, bullet selection, powder selection, and less recoil.

But that's really all this is, just another option. If it's not your cup of tea, don't drink it?
There is no way anyone can say that the 30 Major will out perform the 30BR and visa versa, there are way too many varibles. In the end the shooter is the one who makes it work or not, not the cartridge.

Out of curiosity...I wonder what the velocity difference is between the two using the same bullet. Anyone have the data?

No reason to push the 30Major to get it to shoot.

I have not played with a 30BR. On my end with the Major.......30.6 N-120 118g Eazor 10og ES-9....SD-2.1....Ave-2940.

This set-up is as accurate as my ppc's on a good day.

Rick

Uhhh, is that not what I said?
No it isn't. You said that you would like to see someone put enough time and effort into testing to see which one outperforms the other. I'm saying that's not going to happen because when all is said and done it's the shooter who makes the difference. Like I stated before. I have been shooting my 30 Gorilla on and off for 6 seasons and a 30BR for 7. I've used Tubal 2000, N120 and H4198 in actual matches. I've tested IMR4227, and Norma 200 at home. I have done way better with a 30BR than with my Gorilla. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. IMO the 30 Major lacks the nuts at the longer yardages. You want to see how bad it performs at 300 meters, take it to the Tack driver in Orangeburg, SC in November 2020 and see how much you get used like a rented government mule with it.

The difference is Ronnie and Randy did not convert a HV PPC to 30 Major. If as many shooters were firing the Major as the 30 BR.....My Major did well at Gulf Coast Regionals, Junction city and Ault Co. I'll try it again at Junction City.

I have looked all over the net for case capacity in grains of water for the 30 Major.
No joy. Does any one have the case capacity number? I have a barrel chambered in 30 Kern. It was chambered about 20 years ago in Seattle. It was a cast bullet cartridge. I can not find any info on it either. It is approximately 30 Major. I shoot
jacketed bullets in it now for plinking. I used 7.62 X 39 loading data to start.

Thank you.

Jeffrey
