30 Herrett headache

Yeah, I suppose it's all sorted out by now.
But I'm still bangin' away with the 30 Herrett and guys like Pete are helpful, Thanks.
Been doin' a little woodwork and barrel modification. Yes, it's pinned and vented. Lots of fun workin' up loads.

Looks good. I had a .357 Herrett and it was a wicked cartridge. Wish I still had it. Good Looking weapon too. Yours that is.

I prefer the 357 Herrett over the 30 as it entails less trimming.
It is an awesome cartridge for a handgun.
Thank you for the compliment. I enjoy working with interesting wood for my gun's furniture.
The forearm is spalted sycamore and the buttstock is burly maple.

I ran a few QL trials for the 130gr. Hornady SP out of the 10" Contender. I too have a 30 Herrett barrel for my Contender G1 and find that overpressure isn't a problem for the 24gr. 3031 you listed. QL says it isn't even close to maximum 39987 at 21552, so you should not have any problem with the older frame. H335 might be a better propellant, however with either one you only burn around 65% of the load in the short barrel, and the velocity is around 1500 fps.

so you don't have to have such a pita in your line up, I will allow any one to send there poor old pita 30 or 35 Herrett this way for safe keeping ;)

You don't have a problem, reduce the load and work up again at your new seating depth and play it safe.

With Quickload and .223/5.56 cases, the max case capacity was 30.6 grains of H2O with Lake City cases and minimum case capacity was 28.8 grains of H2O using Israeli IMI cases . Using the same load of 25 grains of H335 in these two case capacities changed the chamber pressure 6,000 psi with 1.8 grains less internal capacity.

this cal uses 30-30 cases ,,,not 223/5.56,,,,we all need to be careful when using internet load data,,,,Roger

This is a no brainer, work up a new load at your new seating depth. No one here will be around to pick Contender parts out of your head if anything goes wrong so work up a new load.

A solution has been found!
Just Google Hornady and obsolete reloading data and Voila! https://www.hornady.com/support/load-data/obsolete-reloading-data
It seems that I can get enough velocity to stabilize that big bullet after all.
Hornady got more velocity outta their loads than Milek did back in '85.
What a great web page Hornady has provided the stodgy old shooting enthusiasts!
They've got quite a few interesting chamberings listed there.
When was the last time you saw loads recommended for the 357/44 Bain & Davis or the 7x45 Ingram (like the TCU)?
