30 CAL VLDS

Hello, I shoot a 308 with a 1 in 11 twist 24in barrel and was trying to decide which weight of the berger VLD bullets would give best accuracy at 600 and 1000y was thinking with the 1 in 11 twist barrel that the 175g weight would give optimum accuracy and speed, any views on this also what comparrisons can be made between the VLD and Lapua 155g scenars, in my 243 1 in 10 twist barrel the 95g VLDs are outstanding, so was hoping to find a good VLD bullet for my 308, Have to wait several weeks after ordering berger bullets so was looking for help on weights before i order thanks paul.

Might be worth your time to read this article:

The 155 Berger VLD's did real well...

Most important part of that article:

The big bullets are a lot better in the wind, but the recoil is significant. I have seen that I shoot better with less recoil, and have recently shot a lot of 155s in preparation for the Palma tryouts. Let me say here that 155 grain bullets are required at the Palma tryouts, but at other matches the shooter can usually shoot whatever they wish. The 155 Berger VLDs that I shot at the Palma tryouts are the most accurate thing I have ever shot from a .308, and I have used them exclusively since I tested them.

Thanks for the great info guys, the 95g berger VLDs are very accurate in my 243 barrel so guess i will have to give the 155g VLDs a go, are the bergers the same length and diameter as the Lapua 155g scenars, im thinking that one possible reason that the 95g bergers shoot best in my 243 is that they are tighter in bore due to a larger shank diameter than the lapua scenars, regards paul.

I've been discussing the Berger 155gr VLD's vs. the Lapua 154gr Scenars w/ someone else via email... the Scenar's are a considerably longer bullet, 20-30 thou longer, and a *lot* of that is a very long boat tail.
