Have you seen "Death in the green Grass" see www.richardscustomrifles.com. And I think you can find it on this site too. Richard is using light 30 cal in a 300WSM in a slow twist barrel. I think you would be ok in the 308.

Agree - that 110 V-Max is a wicked little varmint bullet and works well from the .308 Win. Don't overlook the 110 gr HP Sierra, or the 130 gr HP Speer either. All are very good varmint bullets. Accurate, and they have terrific terminal ballistics!

I used 110 gr Barnes X in 30 cal from an 18" barrel on a deer once. I pulled the shot about an inch on the wrong side of the diaphragm and still liquefied the lungs. For a 'bad shot', the doe traveled 1 step before falling dead. I'm not even sure if they still make that little bullet, but I sure wish I had more!
Anyway, I'm sure that if I can get that kind of tissue damage on a smallish SW Texas doe, you should be able to smoke and varmint you see once you find a load your gun likes.
Good luck! -bnw
