30 BR

thinkin about a barrel I can shoot at 100 and maybe 200 to just stay in practice and not burn up my 6 and 6,5,,,I read the 30 BR will last forever and is accurate in the extreme ,,

how would you set up twist wise and barrel length and freebore to shoot the 115 Berger to the 125 Sierra Tipped MK maybe even the 110 VMax,,

sounds like a fun round to shoot and the bigger bullet might catch the edge of the asprins and dum dum suckers better than the 22 and 6mm bullets,,

I have a 17 twist Krueger with the 30 Robinett chamber done by Lester Bruno.
28" Heavy Varmint. Excellent!

I just had one built about 6 months ago and yes, a 30BR is EXTREMELY accurate. I've found my best success at 100 yds using Berger 115's being pushed by H4198. Mine in on a Remington 700 SA Action with an 1:18 Twist 24.5" Kreiger. I really can't tell you what the freebore is as the PTG/Robinette reamer was that of a friend and I don't have the specs.

I tested the Sierra 110's and even the 125's but they just didn't group as well as the 115's. And I also tested all three using AA2015 powder but the H4198 still remains the best. But the AA2015 powder was a very good substitution if you're out of H4198. One fun and accurate rifle to shoot.

Alex

P,S, Terry, you knew if Lester built it she'd shoot GOOD!

Lester did one for me too on a BAT action/Krieger. My barrel seemed to be much more temperamental than the caliber is advertised on this site - but will shoot a few bullets very well indeed, notably Knights. The additional recoil takes some getting used to after free-recoiling a 6PPC and hold changes will likely be in order.

mr.big, I have a HV 17t Krieger here with Bostrom tuner/brake chambered in 30 BRDX it is threaded and fitted to a Stiller like yours. The owner has prepaid for a stock at TMStockworks, but they have no invoice and found his stock with his name on it, but want to make him pay for it again. Not sure which direction he is going, have not heard from him in over a month. He may want to sell at some point. His health is not the best and the stress from dealing with a company like that may leave him bitter. I was to ship barrel to TMStockworks for inletting, he put me on hold till the mess gets cleaned up.

I have the same as Terry, krieger 1/17 Robinette reamer , Zero freebore, and same gunsmith Lester Bruno I use BIB (Randy Robinette) when available and Cheeks 117 Gr. they are excellent.

Eric,
I like the 30 BRDX idea.
I have a couple of 30 BR barrels and love the caliber.
Jim Campbell from Somerset, Ky area died last week.
Jim shot a 30 DASHER and was competitive with the
best IBS shooters at Buck Creek, Ky.
You will need a brake as it is like a young mule kick
compared to the 6mm BRDX or BR.
The 30 cal is a kicker.
Junebug once hit 10 consecutive eggs at 330 yards with my
30 BR.
He had to stop at 10 because that's all the eggs we had.
You will love a 30 off the 6 BR or improved cast.
