30 BR load ??

I was given a load for a 30 BR as follows:
117 Gr. bullet
seated to touch
H-4198 powder
35.4 Gr. of powder
CCI BR4 primer

I question the powder charge, it seems to be over the top. I can't find anything that would suggest a charge like that.
I'm new to the 30BR game and would appreciate any information.
Thanks!

My load is 34.3 gr. H4198 with 117 gr bullets ,Winchester primers . Have tried 35 gr. ;seemed no different than the 34.3gr. for me anyhow.

My go to load to start with for the 30 is 34.5g of 4198. I have been higher than the load you stated but never did stay that hot.

I guess the lot of powder he was using could be on the slow side also.

34.5 grains of H4198 with 110-118 grain bullets is pretty common. Your load is very high, may cause pressure problems. I have been using a stiff load of RL7 and those bullets with good results in a 17.5 twist jammed .005".

In a custom action, it is hard to get enough H-4198 in the 30 BR case. I am at 34.8gr. with Fed. 205's ,118 gr. and it is compressed.....I have to slow trickle to get it in.
In my Varmint Hunter Class Rem. 700 30 BR, the most I can run is 34.0gr/ H-4198 w/ 118's to get any kind of case life. Both set-ups are into rifling.

While some rigs may end up at 35. +, don't under any circumstances start there.

33.5 gr. and working up in .5gr. increments will show you what you need to know and keep you out of trouble.

+1 on what Al says...start with 33.5 grains... use a long drop tube (4")...and a slow throw or pour from pan...
