30-06 Twist

I am in the market for a hunting weight rifle in .30-06. I am leaning toward a Tikka T3. However, the twist is a 1/11 not 1/10. What is the heaviest bullet that a 1/11 twist will normally stabilize? Barrel length is about 22 1/2". Will I be able to shoot the 208 AMAX? Anything heavier?

Thanks!

I have a T3 in 30-06. I shoot 155 grain bullets with it over Varget. Its a tack driver. Never tried anything heavier for Deer (WT and Muley). It should be fine for 180's but I would think 205's would be pushing it and 1/10 would be better.

Hunting bullets are typically not as long as match bullets. You could use the Berger stability calculator (it's on their site) but based on shooting a 308 with match bullets I'd say you are good up to at least 180s. Berger says it only takes an 11.75 or so to get a SG of 1.5 or better with the 185LRBT/Jugg, so I have to imagine you could stabilize at least the 180 class hunting bullets, and I'd bet it would shoot 200 or heavier bullets at hunting ranges w/o noticeable loss of accuracy.

Remington used to load 30-06 round nose with no restrictions on the box. Maybe it doesn't matter what weight you shoot as long as they aren't modern ,long performance bullets. My cousin shot 190 grain hornady match out of a 03-a3 springfield with ok success.
