30-06 reloaded Bullet drop information

I am relatively new to reloading.
I am lookingFor a ballistic chart that will give me the BulletDrop for a specific load.
That load is a Hornady 165 grain SST bullet with Remington brass in a powder load oh 56 grains of IMR 4350 muzzle velocity for that load will be 2810.
Can anyone help?

I have a load very similar already in my StrelokPro app, I just adjusted velocity to match yours.

Here is what it looks like at the elevation where I live. I ran this with the Ballistic AE app. Note a couple of things. While I like all the new whiz bang cartridges that have come along, a plain old 30-06 with a 165 grain SST at probably 100 fps under its max velocity stays supersonic past 1000 yds. Also, given the 600 yd velocity is over 1800 fps, the bullet will expand very well at 600 and will still expand some at almost 800 yds. And it starts out at .308 in diameter.

I would choose the 30-06 over any 6.5 or 7mm for shooting long range on deer and elk any day of the week and twice on Sundays. I think just to be contrary, I am going to chamber a 30-06 in a 26" barrel, throat it long, and use something like a Nosler 190 ABLR or a Berger 190 VLDH at 2800ish, put a high magnification scope on it, and call it my long range elk rifle.

I completely agree with the 30-06, my hunting rifle is 30-06 with a 26" barrel, my 165sst load with H4350 is 2795. Great bullet, good velocity and will take anything in North America.

What he said ^^^^^^^. You might want to try R-22 and R-23. Get up around 2,900+

And RL-23 is very temp stable. If I execute my contrarian plan, I am thinking I'll start with RL-23. Might go Ackley as well. It's supposed to be worth it with the heavier bullets I'd run. Regardless, it will be built on a New Haven stainless CRF M-70.

Put a break on my ‘06 and went with R-23. 700 Remmy 26” barrel, Fed 210, Peterson brass, 165 BTHP Speer or Sierra pushing 2,900 FPS at 1,000 ft altitude. Kills everything I want to shoot.

When you can find the ballistic coefficient of your particular bullet, and you know the velocity, then all you need to specify to create your own drop charts is the density altitude for where you want to shoot.

Several free web sites will allow you to play around with external ballistics. I’ll add one here, but with very little effort you can find several more. This one is from Berger, and it has drop down values for their bullets but you can just punch in your own.

First look up your Hornday 165 SST.

Your G1 is 0.447 shown down the page. Then plug that in on the Berger input menu and put in your velocity.

Then I put in 2810 over on the right for velocity and plugged in 10 for a full value wind speed. I selected MOA but you can run MILS or Inches. Calculate Range Card and out pops this.


It costs nothing to play with it and you may find it handy to know how to fish instead of asking for fish… Good Luck.

I am very fond of my Ballistic AE app. I think it cost me $30 several years ago, and I like that I have it on my phone.

I think JBM might be the best choice for a free online program. The free version of Berger's is missing a couple of input variables, IIRC.
