I had my Tikka cut to 20" as I use a can. I shoot 150TTSX at 2974 with 414 cause I had it. I will switch to 760 when I run out. I have used 4064 with the 168 TTSX, and I get 2745 with that load. I like portability.

And then there are those of us who want the 30 magnum with the 26" tube. As Nigel said, "Ours go to eleven." ;-)

Why not just make 10 louder?

I’m intrigued by this discussion, as I personally struggle with the trade-off of short and convenient when it’s all I need for my current hunting opportunities. But I also like as much velocity and performance as I can reasonably get.

The 2550 with RL17 is about right for 16 inch barrel. My 28 inch skinny KBI with 4-port Salmon River Solutions Ti-Pro launches 215 Hybrids around 2840. Rifle weighs less than 11 pounds with Trijicon Tenmile. I can interchange RL17 and N560 for the combined precision and velocity.

For reference, one of my buddies 20 inch 300WM runs 215s at 2850. Another guy runs the same bullet from his 18 inch 30N at 2750. The latter double duty as flame thrower.

Sounds like the days when I used to shoot 110gr hollow point sierras from a 30-06 with a case full of 4895.. Didn’t own a crono in those days but they were Volcanically explosive on impact with anything solid… And of course, the massive fireball out front impressed all my friends…

Are you going to use a can? If not, why would you cut it?
And if I had an 06' with a can, I would cut to 20".
Of course, your physical size can matter as well!

You can cut it down to whatever length you want just load it using a powder on the faster side for the bullet you are using.
