Why wouldn't you propose the RPM question to Bryan Litz and be done with it?

Bryan Litz actually addressed that question:

"Air friction slows down the spin of the bullet". Modern Advancements in Long Range Shooting contains a chapter (spin rate decay chapter 4) discussing it. To say there is nil (zero) decay to a bullets RPM in flight, is not quite accurate.

Where in this endless thread does someone say "...nil(zero) decay to a bullets RPM in flight, is not quite accurate." ?
I may have missed it but then again it goes on and on.

I have a 20 cal 3 groove pac-nor and it seems to be the most accurate barrel I have ever owned. I have other 4 groove barrels that do quite well but the 3 groove is great and cleans up easy. A long time ago the nra did testing on 2 and 4 groove 03-a3 barrels as the crowd felt the 2 groove 30-06 barrel was a joke. After doing some interesting tests the 2 groove shined. I have 4 o3's and one of the best is my 2 groove Remington. Bottom line is you can get a turd no matter who makes it or how many grooves it has.

Thanks Boyd. Not that many revs but sure happens fast. I would have thought the rate of spin would decrease with loss of velocity but I guess it doesn't.
I am not much of a perpetual motion believer in gravity.

Do you have a copy of Modern Advancements in Long Range Shooting? If not, it is well worth the money! Our resident scientist and author of the book, Bryan Litz, happens to have a different opinion, based on facts.

To compute how many revolutions a bullet will make from your rifles chamber to the target, compute the target distance to inches and divide by the rate of twist. The velocity and time of flight have no baring and are hypothetical.

Examples:
1000yd = 36000"
36000 / 8" twist = 4500 total Revolutions to 1000yds
36000 / 10" twist = 3600 total Revolutions to 1000yds
36000 / 12" twist = 3000 total Revolutions to 1000yds

There is very little decay to a bullets RPM in flight, unlike 'velocity' and/or 'time of flight' which are dependent of drag.

I think the differences between RPM and revolution is what some are misunderstanding?

Hey fellas, I'm looking for some input on some 3 groove barrels, more specifically the mullerworks. I've never had one and they seem to be less used than the 4 or 5's. Whats some pros/cons?
